Interview: The Bridge

  If you remember a couple of months ago I featured The Bridge on my site for “Eye Candy of the Day” and I told you to be on the lookout for his mixtape “The Product”.  It's out and getting GOOD reviews on Facebook as well as Twitter SO you know I had to get a exclusive interview with the man himself to learn more about his new mixtape, his music… Just him.

Tammy:  Tell me about your new project/mix tape that you have out “The Product”?

The Bridge: Its stuff I’ve been working on for a while. It’s actually been finished since August but I was waiting on certain people to do certain things and that held up the project. Now that it’s out it’s getting a lot of love. As a matter of fact, I just got a call today about having a DJ host it. So a re-release is coming soon. He’s gonna put his extra flavor on it and I’ll probably drop another song or two on there. With “The Product” I just wanted to be well rounded. I think A LOT of albums/mixtape these days are pretty much about one thing and one thing only, whatever that may be. I wanted to make something that touch on a lot of different areas and rode in a bunch of different lane WELL. It’s sh*t for the ladies on here, the lyricist lovers, the street n*ggas, and the stressed out n*gga that can’t pay his bills.

Tammy: How would he define his music?

The Bridge: I would define my music as what is real to me. I would describe my music as well rounded. I write about sh*t I’ve done, plan to do, would/will do etc. Therefore there ain't gonna be too much of one thing/lane/subject matter etc. I’ll flow on tracks from the pop to the dirtiest of the dirty. I’ll touch on subject matter from politics to parties

Tammy: What’s your favorite thing to do when you aren’t writing, etc.?

The Bridge: Watch/Play sports. A lot of people don’t know, well at least fans of my music, that I played division 1 college football and track. 

Tammy: Who are your musical inspirations?

The Bridge: I come from a musical family. My father sung around my city so from an early age I was up on Sam Cooke, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, etc. He was also the first to introduce me to rap. Africa Bambata, MC Hammer, Arrested Development. He would let me listen to rap when my mother, who is a pastor, wouldn’t. So I got influences that early to just love music in general from gospel to funk. I was in honors chorus in HS so I’ve listened to and sung everything from Gregorian Chants to Catholic Mass music. Then as I grew I started listening more to Jay-Z and Tupac. Also southern rap such as Tip, Outkast, Luda, etc.

Tammy: What kind of music do you listen to today/music in your iPod?

The Bridge: Jay-Z, Tupac, and TI would be who you would see the most of. I also bump everything from Fab to Flocka. A good song is a good song. Not everybody is going to be a genius with the wordplay but I don’t listen to every song to hear genius wordplay. The is absolutely nothing better to ride to then some ignorant, bass heavy, music co you can turn you speakers all the way up and wild out.

Tammy: If you could dabble in another genre of music, what would it be?

The Bridge: RnB. I actually would love to try my hand at ghost writing some RnB music. I just don’t sing well enough to actually sing it. But I’d write it. I’d love to rap on a lot of rock songs that come out too.

Tammy: Who are some artists that you would love to work with?

The Bridge: For the record I’ll pretty much work with anyone. I say that cause no matter the artist, genre, or any other variable, I determine whether MY part is hot. I can rap on a Scandinavian country singers record and I’ll either kill it or I’ll be wack. Or I could rap on the newest Jay-Z song and I can either kill it or be wack. With that being said Jay-Z, Tip, Timbo, Pharell, Polo Da Don, Fab, All the dudes on the top of their game

Tammy: What were you thinking about when this song was developed “She's Bad"?

The Bridge: I see you showing that song hella love. I just wanted to do a song that would get the party going. I know that if you get the ladies on the floor the fellas gonna come too. I didn’t just want to do the regular “damn she got a fatt "a**, I’m trying to f*ck tonight” joint. I wanted a joint that would make the ladies feel good about themselves. If they wanna go home with an n*gga then go home with an n*gga. But if they just came out to “Show Off” and be the baddest b*tch on the floor, do that too.

Tammy: What do you hope to do with your music?

The Bridge: Listen: I JUST WANT PEOPLE TO LISTEN.
